Chapter 4: Chapter 4

The fourth chapter begins with Vrndavana das Thakur offering glories, "All Glories, All Glories, All Glories to the lotus eyes of Lord Caitanya, Gouracandra! All Glories to His beloved devotees Day after day the home of Saci devi was filled with unending bliss and the couple, the Brahmin couple were merged in an ocean of bliss, and His elder brother Visvarupa, was also enjoying the happiness of the whole event. Many many relatives and close friends of the family came in to offer their blessings to Lord Caitanya and the home and they uttered mantras for protection from Visnu and His consort for His protection and the protection of the home. And an amazing thing they saw, that whenever the baby would cry, when He would hear the holy name of Hari Nam, He would immediately stop crying, and this peculiar incident had everyone charmed. The demigods would try to appear in the house at night in the form of thieves and some people saw a shadow pass by and they thought there was in the house trying to steal the many gifts that had been given and they would cry for Nhrsmga for protection, not knowing that it was actually a divine Person from the higher planets. And many pandits were there and they recited mantras for protection of the house whenever they saw this. The demigods were only coming to have the darshan, the vision of Lord Caitanya. The demigods would smile because many of the Brahmins would be proud to say that because they had uttered the mantras, this demon had gone away, and the demigods would smile to themselves. The ladies every day would accompany Saci-mata to the Ganges to perform the puja, worship, of the Ganges. And they would return and Saci mata would distribute big gifts of oil and sindhu, the red cosmetic the ladies wear, and betel nuts. Then when the lady saw that Lord Caitanya would only stop crying at chanting of the holy name, they would make Him cry sometimes and then chant Hari Nam and watch Him stop. Actually although they could not understand, this was the lila of Lord Caitanya, to induce people somehow or other to chant the holy name. This is identical to the lila of Lord Krsna's childhood pastimes and childhood mischief. Then one day when no one was home, they heard the sound of breaking jars and jugs and went back and found that oil and milk and ghee and buttermilk were scattered everywhere and Lord Caitanya was lying down and he was weeping. The ladies all started chanting, "Hari, Hari, Haribol, Haribol!", He stopped crying, and they wondered, Who has done all this? Some demon must've entered the house and broken everything.
And many times during four months, the same thing would happen. Actually, it was the lila of Gopal Krsna, but no one could understand that it was Lord Caitanya Himself. Then it came time for the naming ceremony to be performed and Nilambar Chakravarti was invited to give the name. Because He was born beneath the Nim tree, His mother asked that He be named for that, so he was called Nimai, and Nilambar Chakravarti explained that because he will go preaching the yuga dharma everywhere, He will be able to save the whole universe, so His name should be Sri Visvambar. Then different objects were put before the Child like gold coins, the Srimad-Bhagavatam, the scriptures and other objects to find out what would be the nature, Jagganath said, "Now go and take whatever you like." The child drawled over and clasped the Srimad Bhagavatam. Everyone shouted, "Jai, Jai, Haribol, Haribol!" He'll become a great pandit." Others said [end]
