Chapter 8: Lord Kṛṣṇa Shows the Universal Form Within His Mouth

श्रीशुक उवाच एवं सम्प्रार्थितो विप्रः स्वचिकीर्षितमेव तत् चकार नामकरणं गूढो रहसि बालयोः

śrī-śuka uvāca evaṁ samprārthito vipraḥ sva-cikīrṣitam eva tat cakāra nāma-karaṇaṁ gūḍho rahasi bālayoḥ

Synonyms

śrī-śukaḥ uvācaŚrī Śukadeva Gosvāmī said; evamin this way; samprārthitaḥbeing eagerly requested; vipraḥthe brāhmaṇa Gargamuni; sva-cikīrṣitam evawhich he already desired to do and for which he had gone there; tatthat; cakāraperformed; nāma-karaṇamthe name-giving ceremony; gūḍhaḥconfidentially; rahasiin a secluded place; bālayoḥof the two boys (Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma)..

Translation

Śukadeva Gosvāmī continued: Having thus been especially requested by Nanda Mahārāja to do that which he already desired to do, Gargamuni performed the name-giving ceremony for Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma in a solitary place.
