Chapter 16: Lord Paraśurāma Destroys the World's Ruling Class

वरेण च्छन्दयामास प्रीतः सत्यवतीसुतः वव्रे हतानां रामो ऽपि जीवितं चास्मृतिं वधे

vareṇa cchandayām āsa prītaḥ satyavatī-sutaḥ vavre hatānāṁ rāmo 'pi jīvitaṁ cāsmṛtiṁ vadhe

Synonyms

vareṇa cchandayām āsaasked to take a benediction as he liked; prītaḥbeing very pleased (with him); satyavatī-sutaḥJamadagni, the son of Satyavatī; vavresaid; hatānāmof my dead mother and brothers; rāmaḥParaśurāma; apialso; jīvitamlet them be alive; caalso; asmṛtimno remembrance; vadheof their having been killed by me..

Translation

Jamadagni, the son of Satyavatī, was very much pleased with Paraśurāma and asked him to take any benediction he liked. Lord Paraśurāma replied, "Let my mother and brothers live again and not remember having been killed by me. This is the benediction I ask."
